We arrived in Portland on Thursday evening. Matt and Cate picked us up at the airport and took us to a coffee shop called The Bipartisan Cafe.  We ate a veggie sandwich and a PLT&A.  What's a PTL&A you ask?  Why, it's a Prosciutto, Lettuce, Tomato and Avocado sandwich!  If you have never eaten one of these, you should go make one and eat it!  It was sooo good!!!

Then, Graham and I spent all day on Friday wandering around the city.  We rode on the Max AND the Streetcar, went to an amazing yarn store, visited Powell's books, drank iced tea, and ate thai food on Mississippi. The finale was a trip to the Secret Society bar where we practiced being super classy. :)

Saturday morning we woke up and had a 'rustic' breakfast cooked by Matt! Then we went to the Farmer's Market and enjoyed some Pine State Biscuits.  Ours was called the "Chatfield" and it had a biscuit, fried chicken, cheddar cheese, and apple butter... :-)  Now, I've heard a lot of bragging about how delicious the chicken biscuits are in North Carolina, for example, but MAYBE those people should try a Pine State biscuit and see what they think... :-)

That evening, we cooked a magnificent meal with Matt, Cate, Allen, and Alexis.  We had butternut squash/asparagus/pine nut pasta with olive bread and fresh apple-pear cider.  It took so long to make, but it was SO delicious.  For dessert?  A fresh strawberry crumble with homemade whipped cream...

On Sunday, Graham's parents picked us up and took us out on the town.  We visited the Saturday Market (on Sunday, I KNOW!) and had yet another fantastic meal.  I had papusas (fluffy corn tortilla with bean and rice inside of it).  Then we wandered around downtown and enjoyed the Fareless Square some more.  Let's hear it for free public transportation!  Graham also had a berry flavored Gorilla shake.

Tomorrow we pick up the rental car and head for the Redwoods!!  It will be a long day of driving, but I hear there are really tall trees there... AND super intelligent monkeys.  And we all know how excited Graham is about seeing monkeys on this trip... :-)  BYE!

Ma and Pa on

We made it back to tranquility and Peaches was so happy that we did. I hope that you have not been flooded out by these monsoons of the west coast! We wish you the best - warm, sunny days and people. Be safe! Love You.

Erin on

One day I will go to PDX and try these Pine State biscuits and the final call on Best Biscuits will be made!
