Getting to Sandakan by bus is not straight forward there is only one bus per day which goes at 7.30am and you can't buy the tickets in advance so we were there 40mins ahead of schedule and started the 6 hour journey. Sandakan was a nice town, once a town with the greatest number of millionaires in the world the town has somewhat delapidated but still keeps alot of its charm. We checked into the Sandakan backpackers and we were the only guests on the first night but we had the astro channel to ourselves so Sarah got to catch up on desperate housewives and friends and other chick flick programmes. It was nice to relax there.
When we arrived after checking in we thought it would be a good idea to go to sepilok to see the orang utan at the Sabah Orang Utan Centre, so we hoped into a taxi and headed there to make the 3pm feeding time. we arrived 15mins after they commenced and the park rangers at the centre tried to warn us that we wouldn't get to see any but we still forked over the cash and legged it down to the feeding area. Now as most of you know both Sarah and I are blonde but we didn't realise just how blonde and stupid we were until later that evening. When we got to the feeding area there were monkey like creatures feeding away and so we were happy and took photos and videos of the "Orang Utans" after we finished and returned to Sandakan we turned our brains back on and we realised what we saw was not Orang Utans but Macaques instead - so we felt dejected ( Denise i know you will be laughing right about now!)
20Dec
We managed to organise a rushed one day day trip on the Kilabatangan river, to see the wildlife such as Proboscis monkeys and possibly Orang Utans in the wild and although the tour was good we both felt it was overpriced for a day trip compared to other one day trips we've done in Malaysia. Next morning we headed to KK
