Our adventure to Kota Bharu was an epic one. Our tour operator who organised it showed up at 8am at the crossroads outside our hostel in Langkawi. He gave us more details on our schedule and 3 packages to give to people from the different companies which were transporting us- sounds kinda doge but it was only money and instructions so we didn't mind too much. Firdtly we got a minivan to the ferry terminal then we got a fast ferry from langkawi to Santun on the Thai border. Then we met the first agent and gave him a package and he shipped us onto a pickup truck which brought us to a bus station. Then we transferred to a coach to bring us to Hat Yai. That journey took forever but we got there. Then there was kinda a mixup and through the help of a lad from the bus company we managed to find the next guy to payoff for the next stage of the journey! We then were pushed onto a minivan full of malay and thai people and spent the next 6 hours getting to the thai/malay border. We had to cross the border on foot and get a taxi to Kota Bharu. The whole journey took 13 hours in total. We were glad to be back in Malaysia, the atmosphere in southern Thailand was quite hostile with army checkpoints all over the place and army personnel everywhere. On crossing the border the malaysian border guards were very friendly to us and made some jokes. Malaysia definitely gets a thumbs up from us!
