We took the morning bus from the Highlands which brought us to the port on the mainland from where we took the ferry across to Penang's capiral Georgetown. Our hostel was in the Chinatown area of the town, we were trying toi claw back our budget for a few days so we resorted back to dorms. The hostel was a little rundown but the hostel owner was such a nice guy he even talked as Gaeilge to us and said oiche mhaith to us each night before we went to bed! on the second night there were two mice and a gecko in the room with us but that did'nt bither us at all, it's amazing how you just come accumstomed ro these things as you travel.
Georgetown was a nice place, there were areas such as fort Cornwallis which were almist shrines to the British East India Company. We toured arounfd to some of the temples and mosques and when the midday heat kicked in we made our way to the shopping complex and chilledout in the aircon for a while. That evening we saw Bidy of lies in the cinema which was quite good.
Next morning we took a local bus to Batu Ferringhi- the beaches on the northern side of the island. We chilled out there on the beach for a few hours until we couldn't takr the heat any longer so we ducked into an internet cafe for a while. That evening we returned to Georgetown, ooked our ferry to Langkawi from the hostel and had dinner in a nice cheap restaurant called Teik Sen.
