Tuesday 18th Nov.
Well we touched down in Singapore at 8am and the first impressions of Singapore were very good. The Singaporian people have the efficiency of the Germans, the cleanliness of Monica from Friends and better use of English than people from Kerry or the remote west of Ireland!
In Singapore it tis illegal to not flush a public toilets after using them, with a 1000SDollar fine if caught.
We got a shuttle tot the hostel. Our hostel is in Little India which is a nice area for walking around. The temp here is around low 30's but the humidity is really high. They are in the Monsoon season right now so when it's dry it's so humid and when it rains it really rains for 4-5 hours heavily.
The hostel is really nice and clean and the people in our dorm seem fairly nice. The hostel organised a free tour of the area for that afternoon to try to introduce people to each other and to give us an insight to the place- that really went down well with us so in our books this hostel gets good reviews. We were brought to an Islamic mosque then a Chinese temple, to shops that sell offerings to honour the dead! (mad) then to a fruit market where we got to try Durian fruit. We were brought to a Hawkers centre ( like an open market food court with loads of different stalls selling different types of foods- the cheapest and most widely used places to eat in Singapore) You can get a whole dinner for two for about 4 euro equivalent.
Wednesday
We got up relatively early after not getting too much sleep due to the humidity and after our free breakfasrt in the hostel we decided to walk to the bus station to book our bus to Malaysia for next Monday, - The walk almost killed us even though it was only 3k away the humidity seemed to have the better of us. The key is plenty of water of which we're drinking at least 5 litres per day.
That afternoon we took the bus to East Coast Park and hired a tandem bike! For 8SD ~ 4 Euro you can hire the bike for 2 hours and get two bottles of water for free. The cycling along the dedicated cycle and walking track was nice and we got some great pictures of the bay and Singapore skyline. With about twenty minutes remaining it showned signs of raining so we returned the bikes and called in next door to Scruffy Murphys Irish Cafe Bar to avoid the rain. The heavens opened and rained for hours. We got wet walking back to the bus stop but within minutes of being indoors our clothes were back dry. After the rain the humidity levels dropped massively and it was quite nice walking around.
That night we ate at the Hawkers centre before going to watch the new Bond film in the cinema.
On the 24th we left Singapore for Malaysia by bus
