Well we arrived in Sydney yesterday and got a shuttlee bus to our hostel. We are in Central Sydney in the Chinatown area so we are in the minority. For anyone interested my new number in +61450044208. Sarah hasn't got a phone yet but we'll rectify that soon. Spent yesterday evening just walking around and saw the Sydney Opera house lit up in the dark. That was nice.
I was really surprised at the weather here, everyones been telling us that Sydney would be cold this time of year but it's not at all. Last night was really warm and today it's easily in the high 20's and cloudless skies.
After breakfast this morning we hoped on a train and bus to Bondi Beach. Spent the morning starting on the tan! - am now a lobster! The beach is thronged with Irish, i swear in a 50m radius there were at least 30 Irish people. Wnt for a lovely healthy lunch for a change in a cafe on Hall St. and decided to update the blog and allow the heat die out of the sun before going back to the beach - Hope being in cold wet Ireland is making you all jealous hehehe.
By the way Happy Birthday Marese!
Lee we made contact with Sonya today and turns out she'll probably be doing the east coast the same time we are so we'll defo be bumping into her at some stage.
28th Sept.
Sydney is a lovely city for walking around. today we did the tour of the Sydney Opera House - which was really cool, class structure, fair dues to Arups on the engineering- and Jorn Utzon on the design. Spent the rest of the day walking around and later visited Scruffy Murphys.
29th Sept.
We got up early and walked to the Botanic gardens to the Macquarie chair, which is the location for the postcard pictures for both the Sydney Opera house and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Ther views were great but as it quotes in the lonely planet a bus load of Japanese tourists arrived and took over the show so the chances of getting good photos were limited. Later we walked to the area of town known as the Rocks and had coffee before going to walk ofer the Sydney Harbour Bridge. We hadn't intended climbing the bridge due to the price quoted in the books but as it turned out the prices quoted were peak season rates so we changed our minds. The bridge climb was really good, you can't bring your own camera which is a bit of a pain but you can get really good ones taken by the company who run the tour. Now we are as good as you McEneaney!
30th Sept
Visited Darling harbour and went to the Sydney aquarium and saw loads of sharks and other weird fish and sea creatures.
1st Oct
Took the ferry to Manly to have a wander around, wasn't quite beach weather but i'd say it'll be nice a christmas when we come back.
