Arrived in Christchurch on the 23rd and we returned the Hiace much to our disappointment as we'd grown attached to it. Maybe when we return home we'll move to Finglas!
Got a lift back from the airport car rental dropoff in a shuttle bus driven by a German engineer who has been over here for 13yrs, worked as a civil eng for 5yrs then realised that there was more money to be made out of engineering in NZ than in so he set up his own shuttle bus company. He was telling me though that there is a serious recruitment buzz for engineers in Oz at moment offering over $200,000 a year to work in the mines! crazy money but you have to work in Uranium mines so you would come out glowing!
Christchurch is lovely and laid back, Sarah blew our budget getting her hair done but i suppose she's worth it. There's a gresat coffee shop culture here and so many sushi bars so it's a good thing i like sushi. Would definitely recommend Base Backpackers Christchurch for anyone coming here, good spot with loads of deals! There is the best Indian restaurant i've ever been to next door. Tried the Lamb Vindaloo last night it blew my mouth off but was yummy.
We went punting down the river Avon here - it's like the gondolas of venice but with a group of 8 rather than on our own. They bring you up river to the Botanic gardens which looks lovely and for a half an hour it costs about $40 for two - 20yoyos.
We leave for Oz today- the travellers move on again!
