29/06/08
Buenos noches,
got up early this morning and after breakfast strolled down to the Sunday Antiques market in San Telmos. There were some reaaly nice things and alot of junk but my mind was on one thing- westmeath abu! ach ni raibh siad abalta, ach ar aon nois ta an dorais chun chuil fos again! congrats to the dubs - humphreys don't rub it in, may the fleas of a thousand camels infest the nether regions of every dub!
anyhow after the defeat we were chauffered to the soccer game between the home team Racing Club and the away team Belgano Cordoba. the stadium was old and circular with a capacity of around 50k the stadium was full except for the safety corridor between both fans. I have never seen so many riot police in my life. the pitch was sourrounded by a 2m wide moat to prevent people breaking onto the pitch. there was a fabulous buzz in the home support end where we were. within the first 15mins Racing were ahead by a class goal the likes of which could only be seen on the astropitches in Sandymount, the football was impressive to watch pure samba stuff. the game ended 1nill but cordoba missed a sitter to equalize- the stricker rounded the keeper at the penalty spot and all he had to do was tap it in but instead he tripped up on his own shoe laces fell over on his face and watched the ball very very slowly roll wide-he didn't get man of the match!
We are leaving Buenos Aires tomorrow to go to Mendoza a small city in the West of Argentina near the border with Chile, Mendoza is approx 15 hours from Buenos Aires by bus and is the main wine growing region in the country so we hope to go tasting that's all for now,

P.S. Derm here, I've lost my phone so I would appreciate if everyone could email me their phone numbers and also email addresses of anyone who is currently not on the blog list
