Entry 13 of 102 | show all | print this entry

Eventually the bus arrived in Bangkok and it was time to get to the hostel naturally the Tuk Tuk driver got lost and Sarah fell backwards out of it but all was well in the end.
The next day we sorted out the Vietnam visas and train to Chaing Mai where we also booked our trek, am very excited.  In the evening we went to Patpong, the Thai red light district which was cunningly disguised as a market (but we knew why they were there).  All I will say is there were lots of poles and white bikinis plus I got chased down the street by an old woman trying to sell me 'ping pong' for 100 baht alas neither of us had a racket with us so we declined ;-)  We returned to the hostel very tired and aware we had an early start so were keen to get to bed, alas with us even this didn't got smoothly.  Once in the room Sarah noticed a rather large bug on her bag which I naturally had to kill with Sarah's trainer and a lot of girly screaming.  Alas whilst checking I sptted another one under the bed and on the loo.  Sarah went and got the woman who once I showed her the offending insect on the loo said 'ah cockroach!!'  She shooed one out with her broom and picked another one up with a plastic bag whilst me and Sarah cowered in the corrider.  She sprayed some bug spray and left.  Gingerly me and Sarah began to get ready for bed until another one ran by me it was at this point we insisted on moving rooms naturally it was another flight up on the 4th floor.
The following day we crawled out of bed at 5.15am and searched for ages with our rucksacks on for the boat stop, luckily we found it and eventually also found the train station with 15 mins to spare for our train to the River Kwai.

my last posting looks like it ends with 'i think you
're both really brave... not!' as in being sarcastic, but it is not meant to read like that. I do think you are brave! :)

We were starting to get concerned...
Bug situation sounds familiar - Aimee shouting at it with Sarah cowering in a corner. Perhaps you should have taken a mop with you.
Love you both xx
