Flag of New Zealand  , South Island,
Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Well I got back to the blog sooner than thought. Linda whisked us off to Naseby for some curling at the only Olympic curling rink in the southern hemisphere. Aaron and I had quite the time playing on the ice, and had a close game, with me barely coming out as the winner. I got quite vicious in knocking Aaron's stones away from the center though. Nevil and Betty cheered us on, and Linda refereed from the sidelines.

For afternoon tea we went to the local cafe in Naseby, formally a gold mining town. The owner is also the mother of New Zealand's Olympic curler, Sean Becker, and who carried the New Zealand flag in the 2006 Olympic Games. We then hopped over to an even smaller gold mining town of St. Bathans and had a look around. A local border collie mix greeted us and showed us about over to the lake (was a mountain which was dug out by the miners and filled back in) and then up main street. I found Mom's retirement home, a bit pricier than Dad's because it had an actual stone floor and a little more room. Actually she and Dad can fit in there quite nicely together, but I have already got Dad's. Besides, the door is the right hight for Mom.

Now we're off for one more hike around the farm and then off tomorrow.

Cheers!

Loved the pictures of you curling. Decided it is my favorite winter sport following the last winter Olympics!!

Know you both are having the adventure of a lifetime!!
