Well, I have finally decided to move on from lovely Sucre and get myself on the road again. Its kind of a wierd feeling knowing that I am going to have to start making actual decisions about where to eat, where to sleep and who to talk to, after a very fun and settled month here.
Also I am very sad about having to pack my bag again, after accumulating all sorts of rubbish in my room (some fine examples include champagne corks from Chrismas, New Year and my birthday, a santa hat, a cheese grater, and various paintings from the girls in the home). Also one of the first things I bought when I got to Sucre was a lovely, huge bath towel, which was such a treat after months of a travel-towel-and-sarong-combo. Anyway, I'm pretty sure its not going to fit in my backpack so I will have to mourn its loss when I leave. Funny the things you miss.
So, on Thursday I am going to head off to the airport and get a cheap flight out of here before I get sucked in and never leave!
I am heading for La Paz, up into the realms of ridiculously high altitude again. On the way here I passed through Potosi, the highest city in the world, and La Paz is just below at about 3,600m above sea level. Apparently everyone walks slowly there!
The plan for the next 8 weeks (I can't believe there's so little time left!!!) is to head up through Lake Titicaca, southern Peru, Macchu Pichu, the northern coast of Peru, and as far into Equador as I can get before turning round and racing back down to Lima to fly home on the 18th of March. I have done a very unbackpackery thing for my last couple of nights in Lima - I have made a reservation at a five star hotel to get a little bit of luxury and a good nights' sleep before I come back! I don't think I really have the low-budget travel thing in my blood, although I have done pretty well so far, so I'm not going to feel bad for splurging on the last few nights of the trip!
Anyway, sorry for completely failing to upload many photos recently - its been very difficult here, but will hopefully improve at some point soon.
And with that, I will sign off, and be in (hopefully more regular) contact once I am on the road again.
Take care all, am thinking of everyone lots, and missing you all!
