Hello everybody!!  I'm back in Ghana, after a month in Florida, where we shopped and shopped and hung out with all the Quebecers that escape the harsh winter (which apparently was not that harsh this year!)

We had a long trip back, of course...we flew Miami - Frankfurt, then Frankfurt - Accra.  Small drama in Miami when Raphael thought he had lost his passport (I had just given it to him to show the lady as we boarded, then he and Zach ran ahead to find their seats).  He got off the airplane with a flight attendant and looked for it; meanwhile Zach found it underneath the seat - crisis averted!

Smooth flights all the way, but Raphael hardly slept at all, so he was exhausted by the time we got to Accra.  Fred's company has a guest house near the airport (basically an apartment) where employees who are in Accra can spend the night before heading home or to Takoradi or to the mine sites at Wasa or Bogosu.  There is a company policy that we are not allowed to travel in the evening on the road from Accra to Takoradi because the risk of an accident is too high.  There are no lights, people and goats are all along the roads, and there are a lot of bad drivers.

We were happy to see Issa, one of the company drivers, at the airport to pick us up.  We dropped off the kids and Fred, and then went to Shop-Rite, to do some grocery shopping.  Everyone here does a big shopping spree when they are in Accra because there is more stuff available at a better price (i.e. feta cheese, peanut butter, etc.)  When I got back from shopping at about 7 p.m, Raphael was already in bed and we didn't see him till 9 the next morning!  As usual, it took about 5 and half hours to get from Accra to Takoradi...the traffic is truly horrific...just getting out of Accra takes about 2 hours on a good day.   Mostly  just one lane of traffic each way, although they are widening the road in some places.

Our house was in good shape when we arrived, although very dusty and a few dead cockroaches lying around!  The yard looked great, and Francis, the gardener, had made signs for many of the trees and plants with their botanical and common names on them.

I've been driving Fred's truck around which is a lot of fun--I am just now starting to feel like I know where everything is and that I am comfortable driving in this environment...there are only a few sets of lights in town that work, and I finally figured out that if it's not red it's green...there is no light for green, only the red light works!  I'm getting used to the constant beeping to and learning not to take it personally.

April is the hottest month I've can feel the heat coming through the windows.  We've got the airconditioning on in the house so we're comfortable, but I think it would be hard to live without it like most people do here.

Ok, I am going to try and upload some pictures of my house and yard and street now!
