Vang Vieng is a small, backpacker town located in a beautiful mountain setting with a lovely river running through it. The main attraction is the tubing. Basically, you rent a tube for the day ($3) and you go in the river. There are ten bars along the way. So as you are tubing along, the bar will throw out a big stick and pull you in. Our group (me and the awesome English girls- Rachel, Polly and Ella) always held on to each other's tubes when going down the river. This made it a little difficult to pull ourselves to shore especially after we had a few drinks :-)
The bars played music and sold all kinds of great drinks. They also gave away tons of free shots. The scary thing is that they were being poured by the owner's children. At one bar, this cute little 5 year old was pouring shots. To us that is crazy but to them it is something she is able to do to help support the family.
After tubing all day, we would go back and take a shower. Then we would walk over the bridge to the islands where all of the bars were located. Then we would party the night away and do the whole thing again the next day. It was an absolute blast and I definitely enjoyed my time there.
