We were picked up from Pai at 9PM to make the eight hour journey to the Thai/Laos border. The bus ride was incredibly windy and quite a few people got car sick. There was no way that anyone could sleep. So we arrived at the Mekong River tired and hungry. We had breakfast and then made our way through border control to load our boat.

Our boat was this long wooden boat that had wooden benches and a bar. I opted to lay on the floor. The first day, we were on the boat for about 7 hours. The scenery was spectacular and we were able to see how some of the people lived along the river. During the ride, everyone either slept, drank, read a book or played cards. One of the guys who had been playing drinking games preceded to hop off of the boat to try to swim with some local kids and some water buffalo. Luckily, the water buffalo did not attack him.

That night, we stopped off at this small riverside village that only had electricity off of a generator for 3 hours a day. I shared a room with Becky (England) and Theresa (USA). We watched Sex and the City on my laptop all night.

The next day, we continued sailing for another 8 hours. We were so happy to reach Luang Prabang.
