When I was sailing in Australia, I met this great Danish girl (Vibs). We decided that we would meet up for the Full Moon Party in Thailand. I am so happy that we were able to actually work it out. The Full Moon Party is one of those things that any young person should do at least once. It is basically a week long party in celebration of the Full Moon. This month, the full moon occurred on the 20th. However, there are pre-parties that lead up to the big night.
Our first night, we went to a Thai restaurant for dinner. It was the first bad Thai meal I've had. But at least I had good company. After that, we went down to the beach and got a table and chairs. I saw this guy sitting by himself so I asked him to join us. I'm glad I did because Andrew was someone that we hung out with for the whole week. That night got a little wild and crazy as we started consuming a lot of Chang (strong local beer that is 7%). The music was great so we started to dance. We ended up meeting a group of Swedish ice hockey players that we hung out with all night. It's really true what they say- Swedes are very good looking people.
The next day, we went down to the beach. It was so hot that I just literally ended up staying in the water the whole time. For dinner, we went to this Mexican restaurant then we went down to the beach to hang out. On our way there, we randomly saw two other people that we sailed with in Australia. We just yelled HABIBI (our boat's name) at the top of our lungs. How strange is that to see two of the twenty people we sailed with? So Lizzie and Dan joined our party.
During the day, all of the bars play movies. So I decided to take a break from the beach and watch "Knocked Up." I ordered my usual- Banana shake. That's one thing that I love about Asia. There are tons of little stands that sell fruit shakes (less than a $1) and bags of fresh cut fruit. I wish America had more readily available healthy options.
Me, Vibs and Andrew went to this great little Italian place. The bruschetta and the pasta was fabulous. We then went down to the beach to meet everyone else. We had another great night but it was a little more low key so that we could save our energy for the Full Moon Party the next night.
I don't even know where to begin about the Full Moon Party. Basically, around 15,000 people party all along the Haad Rin beach. The bars are all open air so you also can party indoors. As you walk along the beach, you can hear all different kinds of music (hip hop, trance, pop, techno, etc.). There are also many stages set up on the beach for dancing. We got there a little early just to relax and secure a temporary spot. We ended up meeting some Thai architects from Bangkok. They were really nice and it was great to actually meet some of the locals (the party is 99% tourists). They had glow in the dark body paint and offered to draw on us. I requested a heart thinking that it was something simple. Little did I know that they were talented artists! So I did get some more complex ones done. I thought they looked really cool.
We partied very hard but definitely not as hard as some people. There were a lot of drugs floating around (shrooms, pot, ectasy, etc). I obviously didn't do any of that because I don't mess around with that stuff. I think it was really stupid for people to do that because the penalty for drug use in Thailand is either life in jail or death. I was more than happy with my Changs (did I mention that it is the best beer ever?). Vibs ended up getting sick and going home early. So I ended up hanging out with this boy from London. He was really nice but he was a terrible dancer. At least the conversation was good. I saw the sunrise again and then went home for a nice long sleep.
I think that the past five days were my favorite consecutive days on my trip. I had a blast and met so many great people. I would definitely recommend the Full Moon Party as a must do activity for those who are young or young at heart.

Bucket stand
They initially said that they were only going to have a drink and that they were going to have an early night. They ended up staying out until 4 AM. That night I met this crazy Canadian, Kyle. We had so much fun dancing at all of the different beach side bars. During the day, all of the bars play movies. So I decided to take a break from the beach and watch "Knocked Up."
