When I arrived in Darwin, I immediately noticed the heat. It was around 95-100 degrees versus Melbourne's mild climate (75 degrees). I arrived to my hostel, Melaleuca on Mitchell in around midnight. I was so tired and I still had to make up my rubber (yes, rubber!) mattress with sheets. I practically froze to death because the room was so cold and they didn't provide us with any blankets. I resorted to putting on multiple layers.
The next day, I got up and took a long walk along the waterfront. Darwin was the first Australian city to be invaded during World War 2. It had a big memorial to all of the soldiers who lost their lives. It also had an interesting exhibit on the aboriginal people. One of the saddest things about the city is all of the homeless aboriginal people. There are both adults and kids that are walking around in thread bare clothes and no shoes. It broke my heart. At night, I was actually scared to walk around because of all of the husslers.
I flew from Darwin to Singapore to Hong Kong.
