I am currently working at a 5 star resort in the Marlborough Sounds. The resort is located on a beautiful piece of oceanfront property. It is in a very remote location with undisturbed views of the native bush and sea. It hosts 34 guests at any given time and they employ 20 staff members from all over the world (i.e. Germany, Czech Republic, China, Canada, USA, Australia, England, etc.) I really like the other staff members, especially my "laundry ladies" (i.e. the other housekeepers) :-)
The resort is a 45 minute boatride from town (Picton). Since we do not have access to the internet or telephone on grounds, the staff entertains ourselves by hanging out in Bellbird (the staff "mansion"), hiking, or kayaking. On our days off, we take the boat into town to go to the grocery, video store, the Irish pub or the library. I have really enjoyed the isolation. However, this is not somewhere I could be for a long period of time. I hike almost everyday after work. It relaxes me and gives me a little time to myself.
The management rewarded the staff for their hard work by sending us out for a sunset cruise. I was able to skeet shoot which was a lot of fun. However, I was probably the worst one. The sunset that night was magnificient. I don't think that I have ever seen a more beautiful sunset. We had quite a few drinks and laughs.
