Kaikoura is a small, coastal town on the east side of the South Island. It is known for having a large population of wild dusky dolphins and whales. I tried to book a snorkeling trip so that I could swim with the dolphins but they were all booked up. So I decided to hike the Peninsula walk (4 hour hike around the coast). It was amazing!
My favorite part was when I stumbled across tons of wild seals. Seriously, they were like 15 feet off of the path. These were all males because the females and babies have to stay out on the rocks. At one point, I had to go straight up a mountain which was a little difficult at first. But I made it and the walk was definitely worth it because it had gorgeous views of the sea and rocks. I kind of liked doing it by myself because I was able to go at my own pace and enjoy the views.

I am really sad that I wasn't able to swim with the wild dolphins but maybe I will come back to do it.
