The drive from Picton to Nelson was beautiful. I literally stopped reading because I didn't want to miss anything. Instead, I listened to my Ipod and stared in amazement out my window. I arrived to my hostel, Tasman Bay Backpackers. It was quite comfy with both a front and back porch. My 6 person room was really big and cheerfully decorated. Plus, I had a great view of the mountains. But the best part was that I didn't to sleep in a bunk bed!!! I never thought sleeping in just a plain twin bed would get me that excited.
I decided to go on a walk into town. I had out my map and this really nice English girl (Keeley) came up to me. We decided that we would go into town together. She was bubbly, friendly and energetic. Both of us lacked good directional skills. To make a long story short, it took us 2.5 hours to go from the hostel to the grocery. At one point, we thought we were almost back to the hostel when we saw the same Fresh Choice grocery store that we left over 30 minutes ago
Tasman Bay serves FREE warm chocolate pudding and ice cream every night at 8PM. I was picturing like warm jello pudding. This was almost like a warm, fluffy brownie with ice cream. It was delicious!! Keeley and I just sat around talking. Then I went back up to my room and socialized with my roommates (1 Chilean, 1 American from CT, Chris from England). They were all super nice. After about an hour of chatting I went to bed because I had to get up early for my hike.
The next day, I got picked up at 8AM for the bus ride out to Abel Tasman National Park. Once we arrived, two Irish girls and I started the 3.5 hour hike to Anchorage Beach. In the beginning, the hike was fairly easy. I was able to see the most beautiful coastline since I was pretty high up. It reminded me of Fiji because the water was so blue and it was surrounded by lush green Forrest
