Where I stayed
I took the boat from Octopus resort back to the mainland. From there, I hopped on a local bus to Mango Bay Resort on the Coral Coast. This is one of the newest flashpacker resorts. The owners were very hands on which made the guest feel good. The main dining area was really nice. It was attached to a dance club that didn't really get too much action. They also had a lovely pool located right near the beach. I stayed in a 16 person dorm (there were only 7 of us staying in there at the time). It was pretty nice except there wasn't even one fan so it was extremely hot. My roomates were from Canada, Ireland, Australia and Germany. We all got along really well.
Everyday, Laura (from Australia) and I got up and went to breakfast. From there we grabbed some of the good chairs down by the beach. We tried to stay in the shade a little considering that we were both burned. Literally, we relaxed all day long and went in to shower right before Happy Hour (6:30-7:30) which was $1 off beer, wine and spirits
Me, Laura and Canadian Clint decided to catch a taxi into the Pacific Harbour village. Sadly, our main mission was chocolate and aloe gel. When we arrived we found a decent sized grocery store by Fijian standards. There were also lots of shops and restaurants. When we were in the middle of exploring, the power went out. Everyone kept telling us that it would be right back on. Unfortunately, we believed them. We eventually found a restaurant that cooks on a propane gas stove. So we ate there and decided to give up and go back. We found a small gas station on the way back. We bought some snacks (including M&Ms!!) and got back just in time for happy hour. We later found out that the entire island was out of power for 24 hours. I'm glad Mango Bay had a generator.
Saturday night was really fun. We participated in a flip cup tournament. Our team (Team Lush) consisted of me, Laura and 3 awesome English girls. We won the first round but lost in the second. After the tournament was the Meke show. It was a show filled with traditional songs and dance. Once again, the voices were incredible. I was a little scared when they were doing the spear dance. I could just picture the headline "American girl gets killed by spear during a Meke show." I received a beautiful flower necklace from one of the performers. After the show, we all headed in to the dance club. Team Lush definitely ruled the dance floor. We had a blast dancing to rap, techno and ofcourse, Micheal Jackson.
I had a really good time in Fiji but I was excited to get to New Zealand.

. After Happy Hour, we had dinner. The food here was definitely not as good as Octopus. It was mediocre at best. But atleast the atmosphere was good.Me, Laura and Canadian Clint decided to catch a taxi into the Pacific Harbour village. Sadly, our main mission was chocolate and aloe gel.
