After a long flight from California, I was so excited to be in Fiji. The weather was such a nice change from the snow I left behind. I took a 2 hour boat ride out to Octopus Resort on Waya Island. The bumpy rainy ride was definitely worth it. If I had to describe Octopus resort in as few words as possible, I would say that it is a slice of heaven.
Aside from the natural beauty, the facilities are wonderful. The open air dining room offers incredible views of the water. I loved having meals with my toes in the sand.
The staff at Octopus were so great. They were very attentive and always in a good mood. I think the vibe was contagious because the guests also were very friendly. With only 80 people, you were able to get to know a majority of them.
During the day, I typically sat around in a hammock or went in the water.
Happy Hour began at 6:30 every night. This was a great to enjoy a Fiji Gold beer while mingling with the other guests. At around 7:45 dinner began. Seriously, it was a feast every night.
There were also many activities at the resort including scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, etc. I made a wonderful beach bag out of a palm tree leaf. There also was the International crab racing event which was so competitive you would have thought that it would have been the Kentucky derby. I also went to the Village church on Sunday. I was so sad to leave Octopus but I have no doubt that I will make it back at some point. It seriously ranks up there as one of my favorite places.
beach
Physically it is in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen. It has an amazing white sandy beach that is adjacent to some of the most blue water I have ever seen. The resort is also surrounded by lush mountains.Aside from the natural beauty, the facilities are wonderful. The open air dining room offers incredible views of the water. Also, the food was out of this world. I looked forward to every meal. I stayed in a 4 person bure. It looks like a hut that is made out of all local products. The staff at Octopus were so great. My favorite hammock
I would listen for the staff to blow into a shell to let us know that lunch or dinner was ready. I can't complain if my biggest decision of the day was what to choose for lunch.Happy Hour began at 6:30 every night. This was a great to enjoy a Fiji Gold beer while mingling with the other guests. mountain was beautiful. I couldn't understand what was being said but I enjoyed the singing. Their voices were beautiful. In church, all of the children sit together. An old man looked after them and held a threatening stick. Luckily, he didn't use it. I was so sad to leave Octopus but I have no doubt that I will make it back at some point. Sarah Octopus is truly one of my favourite places in Fiji and really glad you enjoyed it! I use to live around the point from the resort and miss the island every single day but still go up to Waya for visits and impressed by the new bures and abit concerned about the sudden growth in the seaweed but overall still a stunning little property!
