After escaping the hovel in Townsville and enduring a 4 hour bus ride (pretty tame compared to most!) we arrived at Airlie Beach. On first glance it was every bit a beautiful as I had imagined it. White(ish) beaches, deep aqua blue seas, rolling lush, tropical hillsides....devine!
It took us 3 attempts at calling the taxi company to pick us up from the bus station. You call one number no matter where you are in Oz, they patch you into the nearest taxi service to where you're calling from. Our first attempt got us through to Brisbane - approx 1500km's away! The second call, the guy had no idea where the bus stop was, or the sailing club or the Saturday markets (both nearby!).
Finally we made it to our apartment... oh my god.....
There were 3 pools at the complex one of which was an infinity pool, where it looks at though it carries on out to sea. We spent the rest of the next day lounging in luxury.
On our last day we were due to be picked up for our sailing trip in the evening, so we spent the day down by the Lagoon ... similar to the one in Cairns but much bigger and warmer. It's in the middle of a park with the Harbour behind. Great setting for a day messing in the sun.
Small world check - We bumped into another guy we initially met in Cairns! I know these are all spots on the backpackers trail, but with so many people around it's funny to see people you know.

Infinity and beyond!
pure heaven. Particularly since the last couple of nights were spent in a hole. Our balcony had views out over Airlie Beach, the apartment came complete with an LCD HD TV and DVD player, dishwasher, washing machine (thank the lord, finally clean clothes!).There were 3 pools at the complex one of which was an infinity pool, where it looks at though it carries on out to sea.
