Entry 7 of 12 | show all | print this entry

Hello everyone....only me!

Well, here we are in Santiago, Chile, and at the end of my South America adventure! What an amazing city to finish off in! Anyway, I'll get to all that later, first I need to update you on what's been going on since I left you a couple of weeks ago.

Well I arrived in Arequipa, south Peru, and at my hostel, which to be honest wasn't so nice but the people running it were so lovely, couldn't do enough for you (and there was a very cute guy who worked on reception), so I decided to brave all and give it a go (the hostel that is not the cute guy). Spent a day looking around the town and a couple of museums and then booked a two day trip to the Colca Canyon to see the Condors.

Bit of a strange trip, lots of driving and being dropped off in small tourist towns that wanted you to buy stuff and spend lots of money. You could have you picture taken holding eagles and owls and that....didn't like that very much so tried to ignore it. Stayed in a small town called Malaga, had dinner and some traditional dancing. One highlight was going to the local hot springs. Very nice...however....and here comes the first embarrassing moment....my swim suit had stretched around the top and so I felt literally like I was 'falling' out of it....therefore it was hard work trying to stay submerged the whole hour and half I was in there. At one point a guy was talking to me for ages and all I could concentrate on was keeping eye contact with him, if you know what I mean...God!

The next day we finally got to go to the Colca Canyon and see the Condors....which were amazing! I managed to see about seven or eight and some flew really close so the view was awesome. The general scenery was pretty impressive of course and even got to see some more Inca ruins (but not a patch on Machu Picchu).

Next stop was Tacna, Peru, further south, right on the border. Arrived and immediately got a taxi to take me across the border and to Arica, Chile. Not much to report in this town, just chilled out for a day or so before catching the bus to Santiago...my last stop. 28hrs later....I arrived!

Santiago...well what can I say? Great town, great hostel and great people! Really loved it. Went to a couple of museums and walked around the town. Met some really great people and we hung out together for a few days. I even ended up cooking a traditional roast dinner for all 8 of  us, which was very nice and homely. Got some great tips on what to do in New Zealand from people who had just traveled around there, which was very handy. Decided to go on a bit of a health kick when I get to New Zealand...have eaten too many Big Completos....which is a sort of hot dog gone large...not good for you but soooooo nice!!!!

Anyway left Santiago on a plane headed for Auckland, New Zealand!!!!

Till next time xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
