Jan and Dave left on Friday night but Mike and I continued down from Kumasi to Accra.
The road wasn't too bad a bit bumpy in places but nothing compared to some of the roads we have experienced on this trip. There are still road works in places but looks like it will be good when it's finished.
To our surprise we found a "highway rest stop" about halfway between Kumasi and Accra at the Benso junction. The place is called Linda Dor's and whoever she is she knows how to get people fed and moving again on their journey. All the STC coaches were stopping there and everyone piled off for chop. If you aren't in that much of a hurry you can sit in the restaurant side. The whole place is open so I'm not sure if that means it stays open 24 hours but the meal was good and the toilets were spotless.
We arrived into Accra to hit the Achimoto junction with all the Burkina Faso lorries heading north from the port. Combined with the roadworks there too, we got into Accra by 4.30pm so not a bad run.
Would I do the journey again? Probably but miss out the road to Timbuktu - fly that part. And allow more time so that you can see things on the way - so that means don't travel with teachers who only have school holidays to stick to!
