In Juayúah, El Salvador, Jamie and I eat as much as we can at the famous food fair along the Ruta de los Flores, a picturesque highway that goes through Western El Salvador.

En Juayúah, El Salvador, Jamie y yo comemos todo lo que podemos en la famosa feria gastronómica por la Ruta de los Flores, una carretera pintoresca que va por el oeste de El Salvador.

I believe this elephant at the Guatemala City Zoo felt a bit trapped in his cage. Mariana, our friend in the city, said he was simply dancing the merengue.

Creo que este elefante en el zoológico de la Ciudad de Guatemala se sentía un poco atrapado en su jaula. Mariana, nuestra amiga en la ciudad, nos dijo que simplemente bailaba el merengue.

The Market in Zone 1, Guatemala City. Many things to see and eat. The fruits are nonis, the ugliest fruit in the world used to make juice. Next are the hens, tied up in a basket. In this picture, there are probably six hens in that one basket. Despite the unpleasant image of the hens, I ate great food.







El mercado en Zona 1 en la Ciudad de Guatemala. Hay muchas cosas que ver y que comer. Las frutas son nonis, la fruta más fea del mundo usada para hacer jugo. Luego están las gallinas, atadas en una cesta. En esta foto, probablemente hay seis gallinas en esa cesta. A pesar de la imagen desagradable de las gallinas, comí comida súper rica.

We arrived in Semuc Champey after a whole day´s journey, changing buses twice. It is a small and remote town in central Guatemala. The next day, we took an amazing tour: 1) We explored caves, climbing ropes THROUGH waterfalls, sliding on rocks and jumping off things. 2) We went tubing down the river. 3) We went to the natural pools in Semuc, one of the most beautiful sights I´ve ever seen. The pictures below are of the pools from above. I couldn´t take a camera into the caves since the water was up to our necks at times. It was a great day.

Llegamos en Semuc Champey después de un viaje que duró un dia, cambiando de buses dos veces. Es un pueblo pequeño y remoto en el centro de Guatemala. El día después hicimos un tour maravilloso. 1) Exploramos las cuevas, trepando una cuerda ENTRE las cascadas, deslizándonos por rocas y tirándonos de cosas. 2) Hicimos tubing por el río. 3) Fuimos a las pozas naturales en Semuc, uno de los lugares más preciosos que jamás he visto. Las fotos son de las pozas desde arriba. No pude llevar la cámara dentro de las cuevas porque el agua a veces subió hasta el cuello. Fue un día maravilloso.




The video is of the ride to Semuc Champey where Jamie and I basically hung out of the back of a truck. It was a fun ride.

El video es del viaje a Semuc Champey donde Jamie y yo básicamente estuvimos sueltas de la maletera/del baúl de la furgoneta. Fue un viaje divertido.

Because of the heat, Jamie and I were forced to buy clothes and make some changes. Here is Jamie's before and after of her very fun pants (sorry it´s sideways)/El calor nos obligó a Jamie y a mí a comprar ropa y a hacer unos cambios. Interesting things I didn´t get to take pictures of/Cosas interesantes de que no tuve oportunidad de hacer fotos:
The bus ride to Juayúa. Men get on the bus and try to sell vitamins that apparently cure everything. One man told us that the reason kids wet the bed is that they have kidney infections, and so we need to buy kidney vitamins. He also said that if you need a new kidney, it´s not easy to get one. You might be able to get a cow kidney. Behind him, blue and green neon lights lit up everytime the driver hit the brakes.
El viaje de bus hasta Juayúa. Hombres suben al bus e intentan vender vitaminas que por lo visto curan todo. Un hombre nos dijo que la razón que los niños mojan la cama es que tienen infecciones de los riñones y por eso, tenemos que comprar la vitaminas para el riñón. También nos dijo que si necesitas otro riñón, no es fácil conseguir uno. Quizás puedes conseguir uno de vaca. Detrás de él, las luces de neón azules y verdes brillaban cada vez que el conductor pisaba el freno.

Right now, I´m in Flores, a beautiful lake town in the north of Guatemala. Tomorrow, we go to Tikal to see the famous Mayan ruins. More pictures to come.
