Driving to the historic and very important, Tingvellir National Park, we drove through lots of deserted land. The only life were the ever present sheep. Neither Sandi or I were feeling very lively!
We passed field after field of lavender lupine. It is really pretty, but we learned that it was brought in for some good reason (we can't remember why!) and it's quickly enveloped the county, becoming invasive and choking out the native plants and trees. (I guess we aren't the only ones messing with the environment in a bad way!
Time for lunch (actually, past time!) and we find a fast food place selling the famous Icelandic hot dogs that are a blend of ports, beef & lamb (it was a little lamby for my taste)
The park was beautiful, even in the rain. Sandi decided to take a hike to the rift, I opted for a nap in the car. It was cold and rainy and my hip was hurting!
This park is important because it is the site of the original Parliament meetings.
Finally, it's time to find our hostel!!
Laugarvatn is a popular lake resort and hot springs near the park. The hostel is clean and neat and very well run.
Dinner was at a farm where we could watch the cows as we ate. Needless to say, I couldn't eat the beef when it was looking me in the eye! Even though they were dairy cows. My chicken was delicious. Everything here is made from scratch and local grown.
