Levoca - 14/08/04 - 15/08/04
Up early again to catch those early buses to make the most of the days, from Zakopane to Levoca (2 & 3/4hr trip). Once we got to Levoca we headed to the tourist information place on ideas on where to stay - normally not a problem - only a problem when you are going uphill the whole way and then to be told that the best one is right back near the bus station that you left. From here we caught another local bus out to a little Gypsy town (very run down) called Spisske Bdhradie to see a 17th century castle - Spissky Hrad. This castle is was once known as the romantic castle as it is ruins of a white castle up on a hill very picturesque and secluded I would imagine?!?! Didn't spend that long in Levoca as we headed off to Kosice the next day. A beautiful little town but not a lot to do.
Kosice - 15/08/04 - 16/08/04
After arriving in Kosice we were using our trusty travel guides (mine the "Lets Go" and Chrissy on the "Lonely Planet") to find accommodation. This time we thought that we would check out one in Chrissy's book....after about an hour of walking around trying to find this place we gave up quick (not quick enough) smart to find another....Backs almost crippling in pain. After checking in we walked around the Old Town area (Stare Maestro - Jacob's Palace, another cathedral etc) but being a Sunday not a lot was going on. We were also to find out that a lot of tourist things are not open on a Monday so you can pretty much write-off those 2 days. We were going to stay another day to see some UNESCO caves outside Kosice but alas they were not open on a Monday. At lunch time we thought that we would sit in the little park in the Stare Maestro area and enjoy the musical water fountain with a little bit of a light show going on. The Barcelona one (for those of you that know) can be quietly confident that it will not lose heaps of tourists to Kosice's ever impressive water fountain....you could say a little tacky. Anyways....whilst sitting down enjoying the show we were accosted by some young gypsy girls who thought it was hilarious when she was trying to take food from us.....I don't think the girl understood how dangerous Chrissy could of been with an open pocket knife in her hand.....some fingers could have gone missing....we were very hungry. Also while sitting around and enjoying the atmosphere we also noticed a phenomenon sweeping Slovakia - women wearing white pants with a white g-string - for all the world to see. Maybe we can export this idea....we'd make millions!!!
