Kuala Lumpur, I've been here before but never on my own and my memories are limited to airport lounges, taxis and air conditioned shopping malls, time for me to see what the real KL has to offer.
I begin my first day with an Aimless Wander; my favourite way of experiencing a city. Method: exit hotel, walk, take random turn, walk some more, another random turn etc etc
I don't know exactly what this is supposed to achieve but that's half the point and today within ten minutes I achieve Susan, a friendly Malaysian girl who randomly stops me in the street for a chat. I soon discover she is a hospital worker who is being transferred to Brisbane soon (god help her!) and so we hit it off and within half an hour I find myself back at her house sharing a meal of squid and chicken with her uncle Anton and extended family
Thanks to this connection I scratch my plan of only staying one night and spend the next couple of days touring KL with susan and her aunt escorted by their driver whose name I forget but who doesn't speak any english and has 4 wives and 10 kids, yikes! The girls are constantly making fun of him as he is being continually harrased on his mobile by various wives and kids who demand to know why there are women in the car!
I could go into more detail but instead I might just list a couple of moments that have stuck with me in an attempt to capture my KL experience.
1. Seeing a woman in full black burhka(eyes only) trying to chow down on a tasty meal of fried chicken served Colonel style (yes I mean KFC!)
2. Toll booths adorned with the slogan "Say no to porn! hit alt + F4" at first I thought this was a government iniative until I noticed a 'Celcom' logo at the bottom
3. Heading towards the monorail and then impulsively taking a random jungle path off the side of the road which I follow to somehow find myself at the top of 276m high KL tower with a spectacular view of the city (photos attached)
4.Discovering that all of these relatively poor Malaysian folk have better phones than me, even the driver...
4.Susans aunt asking me if I have any 'available uncle'- "I prefer 50 plus young man no fun..." she's already had 3 husbands the last of which left her with a 2yr old daughter who he has never met :( She's a little on the chubby side but a genuine sweetie. Unfortunately both my uncles are married so anyone got any likely candidates?? ardino??

Hey Sam! It seems that everything is going smoothly and that you are having fun... and how about the cross between globalisation and different cultures!
Keep us up-to-date and add some pictures (there are no pictures attached) for those who are anchored in Australia... to have a taste of what is happening out there.
Good way, good thinking, safe fun!!!
hahaha ... funny shit mate
... have you tried durians yet? that pungent prickly fruit? oh, try their laksa ... and satay served with cubed rice ...
Miss you already! Happy travelling matey!
Heya Spikey!
Christ I didn't even know you had left, shows how out of loop I am on this side of the world?
Where are you headed after KL? Are you staying in SE Asia or coming over to Europe? Maybe S America? How long you travelling for? Yes I know thats a lot of questions, but lemme know!
Menaka Sux Cock!!
No thanx Sam, keep looking. Actually i liked the sound of 'cousin IT' scoffin down KFC- send her over. Poor woman- can't even take her burhka off to eat KFC, now that is discrimination. Actually I heard a tasteless, discusting joke that I didn't find funny at all- anyone who laughs at this joke (even if you are alone and in the privacy of your own home) should be shot in public.
knock knock...
whos there???
obviously not a woman, because she wouldn't be out of the house in order to have to nock to get in again.
...see- absolutely tasteless
That's Awesome Sam
That's the way to travel:) Glad to hear you're having fun. Good luck and best wishes on the rest of your trip. I'll be looking forward to hearing from you and how your doing via travelpod. Take care.
