Hello, welcome and thanks for being brave and investigating 'The Blog' - I know it sounds like something quite ominous if you haven't used one before. This is also my first official blogging experience but for those who have had the 'pleasure' of my previous ramblings and ranting I'm sure you will agree that it is right up my street to have a website where I can waffle to my hearts content.  Therefore as long as someone is happy to read I'll continue to write (and even if you don't want to read it, there may be no stopping me!).

I'm starting to write this first entry while our feet are firmly on British soil and enjoying the beginning of a beautiful British summer.  It's easy to think twice about why we're upping sticks when the weather is so good here.  Summer has just arrived but unfortunately we are about to fly into Winter and chase it for the next 6 months before seeing Spring again let alone Summer (thank goodness we like skiing!)

We are pretty much packed and ready to go but with one day spare still where everything has the opportunity to go wrong.  Today I went into Watford to run some errands and found that unbelievably I had gotten lost between Hemel and Watford (a route we drive twice a day, everyday!) This has, in itself, given me some concern for my navigational skills and wondering if they make 'GAP year sat navs' for the totally useless.  I'm sure someone once told me that to find your way out of a maze you keep your left had on the wall and don't take it off until your back at the start - if you see me crouched down with a hand on the floor in a lot of our pictures you'll know I've resorted to that!

For those who have not heard the plans yet our current route (subject to change) is:

June - Arrive in Rio, join a Tucan Travel backpacker tour bus for two months that will take us around South America through Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.  Then we make our own way from Lima to Santiago.

August - Fly from Chile to New Zealand where we have working visas and plan to work for approximately 5 months around Queenstown (hopefully catching the ski season).

March - Fly to Sydney and spend a month enjoying the sights of the country with a refreshed budget!

April - Fly to Singapore and spend two months traveling overland around Asia before flying out of Thailand in June 2010.

It's making me feel pretty tired thinking about it!

Well I've obviously written far too much already considering nothing has even happened yet so better give the keyboard a rest for now in anticipation of a lot more to come...

See you on the road,

Amy and Steve

P.s  Not that I know all the various functions of this site but its worth having a look around as I think you can set up email alerts for when we add new blogs and comment on posts that we write.  In particular my favorite function is the map illustrations so you get a free geography lesson every time you get an update (and a far more accurate one than listening to me explain where countries are!)

Ok I'll dry my eyes and send you both xxxx. It has been a busy morning dropping Abbie off at 7, walking the dog, voting ( though there was more dust moving across the floor than voters!), reading the DT and munching PB toast to muse over the next batch of MPs expense claims followed by a trip to the library as my epic read of War & Peace reaches its end. Made an apple cake yesterday which Abbie ate in one sitting shall knock up another today this time putting half away! Safe landing.
