Final reviews came and went. They went extremely well and I was very happy how the year ended. It was the last night the 48 of us would be together and with all of our teachers. It was sad! When you spend all of your time with the same 48 people 24/7, it's sad even though you'll see them next year.
I spent my last remaining week going to the Musee D'Orsay, the Louvre, and climbing to the top of the Arc de Triomphe. One night a group of us sat along the Seine with our, now former, structures teacher, and had wine and beer and just spent the evening watching the sun go down and the boats go by.
This was the best year of my life. I can't even sum it up for you. I gained a little weight, yes I did, but it will go away this summer. I ate too many pastries, ate too much food, tried the beer in every country, made a bunch of friends, gained a bunch of crazy stories, did crazy things, saw amazing places, bought random things, ate a hundred baguettes, went to the clubs, and ended with a 3 week vacation in Italy. On the other side of things, the architectural knowledge I gained from this trip is better than anything I would have learned in school back home. It was an opportunity more than half the class didn't get a chance to experience and one I'm extremely lucky to have participated in. This was the 42nd year of the Versailles program and with over 1,000 students having gone through it themselves, I can say I am one of them.
Living in Europe has changed my views on everything. It's more than just some fantasy land or crazy place that I've only heard about from other people. The people are different, the customs are different, food shopping is different, everything is different. Best of all, the architecture in all these places is just incredible. I'm going to miss it when I get back home.
But, I made 47 new friends that are just amazing and we still have one more year together (and I have gotten to know some awesome teachers/professors and architects). On wednesday night, tonight, 2 nights before leaving, a small group of us went out for a French dinner one last time. I had escargot, some Foie Gras, duck in this sweet blackcurrant sauce with gratin, creme brulee, and Bordeaux. I'm definitely going to miss the food! :)
But, I come home in 2 days, and I can't wait to see everyone. It's been a long time! But it's here! Versailles is officially over!
