So Preston and myself finally made it after 10 months of saving, as of yet it hasn´t hit home that I'm traveling. We touched down at 5.15am local time, still tired from the flight we got a taxi to our hotel. It seemed like the driver was taking us out of town as it took an hour to get there, but in fact he was taking us to the city centre. The journey was a tad sketchy as the roads were manic even though it was 6am. After we checked in we set about exploring the city, as you could imagine we spent most of our time taking photos. We covered the `must see´ sights that were recommended in the guide, this included a couple of landmark buildings and a cathedral. There was a surprising amount of poverty in the city centre, with homeless children, some with missing limbs sleeping in the middle of the pavements. After the man u roma game we embarked on frustrating journey with a taxi driver who could not speak a word of English, in order to pick up a few beers. We spent the remainder of the evening playing cards and watching Brazilian soap operas. Nice!
