I am way behind on this blog so I will attempt to update since I have a few spare days of rest. I'm going to back up to the 24th of June and my travels through Phenom penn.

In the morning of the 24th we got up and met a local guide who was going to take us to see the killing fields and prsn from the Cambodian civil war. That afternoon the plan was to go to a school/tutoring center the guide sponsers.

At the kiling fields I can not describe into words what I saw. The only thing I can do is show you a few pictures that speak louder than I can. After the killing fields I was reflecting on everything that I saw and gained a lot of respect for the children I was tutoring that evening because they have been able to overcome so much horrible history. The prison and the killing firleds was a ery tragic and horrible example of what humans are capable of doing to one another. People can be horrible cruel to one another and so inhuman. The image that sticks in my mind to this day is that of a large tree where they would grab the babies by their legs and beat them against till their death. Such innocent life was ended by such cruelity.

While in Phenom Penn I also went to visit a different side of the cambodian culture and that is the spiritual side that was forced ou of existance during the unrest but is the side of the culture that has kept millions of cambodians from revolting against the inhuman regime. I spent an afternoon alone examining the grande palace and the silver pagoda which are two beautiful monuments constructed and untouched by the civil wars.

During my time here I also went and worked at a tutoring center with the students helping them practice teir english and spending time with children who are so starved for even a simple smile or hug. My heart breaks for these kids. So much poverty but so many smiles of joy when I walked into that room. It was something I will never forget.
