We wandered around, killing time by drinking soft drinks and comparing our horoscopes in different newspapers.
The next morning we checked out of the country at the border post, and waited around for the boat. We sat there drinking coconut milk, kindly donated by a guy up a tree with a machete. We chatted to Jenny and Maribel, two Nicaraguan girls working in Costa Rica. They'd come up to the border to get Jenny's dad out of jail. He'd come over to visit his daughter and see his baby grandson but had got caught by la migra without his papers and slung in the nick.
We met an Israeli couple, David and Sharon. I don't think they'd been out of Israel before and were countering their fear of the unknown with racist comments and constant complaints. I hope they change their attitude before someone takes offense.
Then at midday we hopped in the boat for the pleasant one-hour ride down the Rio Frio to Lake Nicaragua and the town of San Carlos.
