Itīs only 130km from San Cristobal to Palenque but the journey takes five hours through winding jungle roads.

I counted seven people puking on that trip. I had little else to do: I was sitting next to the toilet at the back of the bus.

One poor girl came flying out of the toilet mid-hurl as the bus rounded a corner. Bits of secondhand corn tortilla peppered the seats and floor all around her. Nice.
