This little town is at the end of the road, literally. Thirty kilometres driving over unpaved road, then you have to leave your car and catch a boat over the lagoon to this little island.

We slept in cabins on stilts, and surfed a beautiful righthand point every day. The water was so clear that you could see all the fish, little sharks and eagle rays swimming under you. The rays jumped out of the water right next to us.

The downside came on the last day when one of the locals, a moody bastard called Chuy, surfed right over me and cut a big ol´gash on the top of my head. I bled eveywhere and had to have three stitches.

One of the local kids took me up to the clinic and helped the nurse sew me up. I gave him my board by way of thanks.

And went to Puerto Escondido....
