First of all, I need to let you all know that anything that is written on here are my personal opinions only. Not the opinions of the Peace Corps itself.
Friday afternoon, our Urban Youth group jumped in a van headed for Caacupe. A city about an hour and a half away from Guarambare. We went to Caacupe to go to stay the night at a camp. It was just like summer camp in the U.S. We stayed in a cabin in the woods. Although there was no lake, there was a pool that we swam in. Caacupe has the largest church in Paraguay. We drove by it, but did not go in.
The camp we went to was funded by people in the U.S. I think that is why it resembled a summer camp. We played games and had a huge bonfire. The bonfire was like a talent show. I saw fire dancing, bellydancing, and juggling....all from the other girls in my group. It was so much fun.
Saturday, we hiked up a large hill with a Paraguayan guide. It was great to be sweating because I was working out...not because it was only incredibly hot. Unfortunatly, on our way up, I was stung twice by a whasp. Once in the back and then on my head. OUCH! Once we got to the top, we could see the town of Caacupe. It was beautiful. Being in the hills was a fabulous change. We were able to have amazing views...and the tempurature was a bit cooler.
To make the trip great, we stopped at an amazing soft serve ice cream shop on the way there and on the way back. Yum!
It was great to have a night to ourselves at a camp in another city. The traveling is always enjoyable.

Hola Amiga
Hi Sam, just checked my email and saw you had an entry. The weekend getaway sounds awesome. I'll be the wasps down there are as big as birds....you are having a rough go of the animals in Paraguay....first a big rat, now a wasp. I work tonite, then gone for a week vacation...Oh yea! Let you know how my vacation was next weekend. Love you, Miss you! Dad.

You should start a collection of all the animals that violate you on your trip... you must smell good or something!!!
Miss ya!
Katie
hey sam...
Sam...sounds like you are just 'sweet' (notice the quotatation marks. I'm jealous of the trip up the mountains and especially the view from the top. The view here is the same. No new customers at Coborns Liqour...Leonard is still buying his baby bottles everyday!! We are having a beautiful spring weekend and the maple trees are pouring out sap. We make maple syrup here on our place so we've been very busy. It's good busy though! It sounds like you are experiencing just what you hoped for....I'm so glad! Thanks for including me in this blog. Val and Kathy B. say hi!!
thanks honey
