Up early for Trek Day! The story behind how this trek was incorporated into the Feejee Experience pass is that the manager was good friends with Mr Matakibau so they were chatting with him once saying they wanted to include a wicked trek for everyone but didnt want to work with any cheesy commercial operators who would hold your hand as you go. Then 3 days later Mr Matakibau turned up in the office and he had gone into a local village, grabbed a couple of lads armed with machetes and re-cut an old track by hand through to the upper river villages. So this trek is not for your nana and sturdy footwear is essential!

It was scorchingly hot and about 3 hours in total. The first part had no shade and we were dripping with sweat, before finding the second part of the track that went through the rainforest where it was extremely slippy! The scenery was fantastic, completely wild jungle! We then got to a creek we had to wade along for ages, often tripping on rocks or tree roots underwater. We eventually emerged at the Navau River a little battered, completely knackered and covered in sweat. Without a second thought I divded straight in!

We had some quick grub before jumping on some rubber ring tubes and floating off downstream, ocassionally racing and splashing about. On passing a waterfall we couldnt resist climbing up to launch off back in the river and bathing in the pools there. Our guides Mimi and Watson were so much fun! It was then a longboat ride back which is the main form of transportation for local villages, a great way to travel through the picturesque and lush gorges.

We then got back on the bus for the short journey to Suva to crash out!
