On our route to Mercury Bay we stopped at Cathedral Cove for a wander and quick swim in Stingray Bay before trekking back up. We then made it to Hot Water Beach which was bizarre! You basically dig in the sand for a bit and when you find water it is hot. Dig your own Hot Tub! To do with the geothermal activity below the ground and a fault line I guess but quite surreal. Its actually far too hot just as it is so you have to mix in some cold sea water too for a good temperature to get in. Failing that, you boycott someone elses digging effort which is exactly what I did. Much easier.
