Today we decided to do the hike up to Vintgar and the gorge so after a good breakfast we set off. A beautiful walk through lots of rural fields and farmy houses- all with apple trees and big vegetable patches, and of course the ever present magnificent mountain backdrop.

We made it up to the national park and started the route which follows the river through the gorge. It was absolutely incredible! The water was such an intense blue and so clear we could spot tons of fish even where it was very deep. Damn we didn't bring the fish spear!

The natural course of the river over rocks with occasional rapids and cascades of water through the deep gorge was wonderful and quite enchanting with the suns rays sneaking down through the trees. A very mystical and magical feeling.

The gorge itself was really impressive, steep cliff faces either side but with plenty of greens in all shades making up the vegetation and adding to the vivid colours. One of the best walks I have ever been on, round every turn you were blessed with another astounding view or amazed by the intense colours, mesmerised by the sounds and movement of the water.

We then got to a big wide waterfall cascading down before reaching another which was a higher drop and even more impressive. We felt so lucky to have come to such a beautiful place and a fresh grin of excitement crept over my face with every new scene to take in, but loads of people walking the other way passing us seemed to have faces like slapped arses. We couldn't work out why, maybe cos there wasn't a McDonald's.

By the second waterfall there was a little hut selling ice cream and has picnic benches so we took a pew to have a bite to eat, dining on chunks of bread dipped in chocolate spread that we has bought with us. Now, with his mouth full, Simon coughed causing some food to go up his nose. This I found hilarious but gave him a tissue to blow it out, which he did and then showed me. What a gentleman. Then happily munching on my last piece and turning to put a postcard in my bag, all of a sudden there is a massive 'PFFFTHFFTH' and a huge snot and chocolate covered lump of bread came flying across the table. Simon had managed to dislodge the other bit of food from his nostril. Gross!! Half in hysterics and half about to throw up we then left the picnic tables and flying bogey bread.

Then it was a very pleasant walk back down into Bled through a very enchanting forest and then another small villagey collection of cute farm houses.

Next was a trip down to the lake for a good swim and some attempts at cool underwater photos. Even the swans came over to have a look at our synchronised swimming performance.

After some showers n a rinse on the free juke box outside our room we then strolled up to the supermarket with the intention of getting something to cook. However there wasn't anything too inspiring and we were pretty starved so popped into a local cheap restaurant instead. Last guilty pleasure before cooking on our stove again as of tomorrow. (except for the delicious chocolate ice cream I then got to walk round the lake with while it was all lit up looking pretty)
