Where I stayed
We did a day in the National Park as well and got there early to hike around Punta Catedral; very jungly and we got stuck in the mud a few times exploring the labyrinth of overgrowth. There were many noises coming from the depths of the foliage as well which was a little un-nerving at times. We spotted some giant rat-type things running around and after observing a group of monkeys from afar, they then descended upon us when a group walking the other way got some food out. Amazing to have them so close but a little alarming as they were quite intimidating and aggressive when they decided we might have some muchies on us
After a good stroll around we parked our bottoms on one of the beaches in the National Park to soak up some rays. It was the most spectacular spot surrounded by paradise. The sea was also very inviting on such a glorious day. As we were basking in the beauty we spied a naughty raccoon tip-toe out of the jungle and start rummaging through a couples bag while they were dozing. It was brilliant as the man got up with a start and shooed the raccoon away. This then provided much entertainment as every so often when they werent looking, the persistently cheeky little devil kept sneaking up on them to try and nick their picnic!
Even as we were walking out of the Park we caught sight of some howler monkeys with an adorable baby, and later in the evening on our way to dinner we saw a sloth crawling along some power cables with a cute little whippersnapper! Wildlife is all around.
Our last excursion was a tour of the Damas Mangroves by kayak. We spotted a blue heron, tiger heron, jesus christ lizard (the ones that run on water), iguanas, big colourful crabs, fish and a massive splash from a crocodile (that made us keep our hands out of the water!) and stopped for lunch on the way back having a classic gallo pinto (rice and beans!)
On our last night in Manuel Antonio we enjoyed a great meal at El Avion, a massive plane inside a restaurant. We sat on a table at the edge which overlooked a bay and witnessed a fantastic thunderstorm with amazing lightning! Every now and again the sky would light up enough to glimpse the beautiful coastline, and then huge bright forks of lightening zig-zagged in the sky. Incredible.
