Jambo Kenya

Well here we are. Sitting at the internet cafe in Nairobi, near our hotel which is called Kenya comfort Hotel and it is at the junction of Muindi Mbingu/Monrovia street. It is a very nice hotel. Very clean and has just recently been refurbished and repainted. You can tell from the strong smell of the paint in the room!
The flight from Cairo to Nairoi took approximately under 5 hours. It was a comfortable flight. Except at the begining as we got onto the plane, Steve and I were desperately trying to find our seats, numbers 25 and 26. Or so we thought! We went all the way to the end of the plane, and the last row number was 22! So I turned to the cabin crew and asked, where is 25 and 26! Of course I had a smile on my face and asked him, perhaps we have our seats reserved on the wings! He took a look at the ticket and then me, and with an even bigger smile, he told me we are looking at the wrong number and our seats are 16 E and F and we have been looking at the frequent flyer number! :( That was embaressing! :)
We arrived at the airport in Nairobi and found there was no one from our tour company to pick us up! That was quite annoying, considering we had paid about 90 pounds for the transfer. So we had to pay another 20 USD. I am hoping to ger a refund on that today from our tour leader! I shall try to look angry! :)
We were pleasantly surprised to arrive in Nairobi and find ourselves shivering from the cold! The weather is fantastically cooler here than in the Middle Easte. This is great for us. To see couds in the sky and the smell of rain is such a treat for us. We have had roughly 6 weeks of sunshine and hot climate. So I think we are looking forward to some cool weather and lower temperatures. The air temperature of outside as we landed last night was 59 F. And there is no AC in the rooms! But a big mosquito net above the bed! :)
After the initial hiccup of not finding our names on the list of the tour (which at that point we thought, with the absence of the taxi and now absence of our names, do they think we are not coming!).. we are meeting the rest of the group this evening and having our usual predeparture meeting and briefing. There are 16 of us.
The atmosphere here is extremely chilled out and relaxed. People at first glance seem quite friendly. I am sure this is going to be a great holiday.
:)

Recommendation for a restuarant (reply) Jul 24, 2006 12:38 EST by kathyr
Hello!
Well Narobi is one place i have been (and I've not been to many on your list!!) Just to say that if you get a chance try and visit the canivoire restaurant in narobi. As the name would suggest it has all kinds of meat (not endangered) - to name a few you can try zebra, impala and crocodile as well as the normal lamb, sausages etc. you just keep the flag on your table raised and they keep... show all
