Show trip route
Our dear friends, John (JJ) and Sandra, had flown from Brisbane to Hong Kong to meet us, and had organised two jam-packed weeks of living the high life. Our lives as dirt-bag climbers had taken a dramatic turn. No more tents and cold showers, Hong Kong would turn out to be about eating in the best restaurants, drinking expensive champagne and shopping!
It all began when we landed in Hong Kong airport, collected our luggage and found a man, dressed in a suit holding an "Upskill Climbing" sign
The next few days were spent shopping, shopping and more shopping! Keep in mind that shopping has been out of the question for me over the last twelve months, so this was a dream come true. (Lee: No! I got shin splints. It was brutal!) Clothes, jewellery, handbags, watches, Hong Kong has it all! At night, we visited the famous Aqua Bar where Lee and I were both treated to fabulous meals featuring lobster (again, it’s been a while!)
One night, we went on a Junk Trip to Llama island which boasts some of Hong Kong’s best seafood restaurants. Instead of having a menu, diners are expected to simply pick and point from the tanks of live fish and crustaceans stationed outside each restaurant. Someone in our group got wind of Lee’s background in marine biology, so he was swiftly appointed to do the ordering for our table of 10+ people.
Whilst in Hong Kong, we made two day trips to Shenzhen (which incidentally involved crossing the border and going through customs, immigration, visas etc)
Lee: After a couple of days of Shenzhen craziness, John and I were ready for some climbing. Yangshou in China is somewhere we've always wanted to check out. Only about 500km away from HK, so on a whim, we all jumped on a plane. What happened next will unfold in our next blog entry...
