Managed to be the only tourists on a 30 seater speed boat from Phi Phi which we thought was brilliant, until it started pouring with rain. Would have otherwise been a very pretty trip. As it was, we couldn't see through a wall of grey. Had a quick change over at Ko Lanta to another speed boat which saw us arrive on Ko Ngai 30 minutes later to yet more rain. Great. So much for our two days of rest and relaxation in the sunshine. At least it was still 25+ degrees.
With no hint of it clearing we checked in and went for a siesta.... which lasted for 5 hours. Feeling like we should do something of purpose we walked down to the resort restaurant and had dinner by the sea
The next day saw a slight clearing to the sky with intermittent sunshine. The wind, however, had picked up so our grand plans of kayaking and snorkelling were thwarted. We therefore spent the day eating, sunbathing, swimming, eating, sunbathing, swimming. Pretty much in that order. Oh and being snap happy with our cameras whenever the sun shone! Our time of being two of a handful of people in the resort came to an end mid afternoon when three boat loads of Thai tourists got dropped off. Didn't make too much of a difference. Just meant we had to share the beach with 10 people rather than just ourselves whilst everyone else kept to the pool.
The resort we stayed at was on a on a secluded beach, nestled in tropical forest around a point from the main beach which could be access by boat or on foot at low tide. Besides from the dozen resorts scattered on its shores, the island itself is uninhabited.
When the tide went out in the afternoon we clambered over rocks and through forest to the main beach where most of the resorts are located
After ending two nights in a row before 8pm I think we'll be well and truly recharged and ready to move on in the morning. Beautiful place though and nice to step onto an island less travelled.
