What can we say about Roznava that wouldn't cause offence... Well the old square in the centre is very nice but beyond that, well it's a bit of a dump to be honest and unfortunately beyond that is precisely where our accommodation was located in a filthy apartment block.  Made the mistake of going to the cheapest place we could see in the folder produced by the guy in the tourist info (which frankly wasn't that cheap given the state of it and the other nice places we have stayed) and not checking the room first.  Won't make that mistake again although in a few months time we will probably look back at this and laugh and say what were we moaning at.  Anyway, what we came here to see were the Octinska aragonite cave and the Domica cave and they were well worth the effort.  They say a picture tells a thousand words so we will use our time to upload the best of what we took (which may be in a couple of internet stops time so bear with us!).

What is worth a mention though, because you may not pick them out in the photos, are the bats we saw in the Domica cave, which is home to 16 different species.  We saw at least two different types (one small with dark fur and the other larger with light brown fur - probably a mediterranean horseshoe bat judging from the picture in our guide book as these are the most common here),

After our tour of the Domica cave we stumbled across a nature trail through part of the Domica Karren National Nature Reserve - basically taking us in a circle round the hillside on top of the cave.  Cicada were chirruping like mad in the grass.  Saw loads of different butterflies, a huge beetle emerging from a burrow, a lesser spotted woodpecker, two lizards and get this Mum/MiL - a nightjar!!  No kidding, we verified it on the RSPB website earlier.
