After a full day of flying (with only 1 hr delay) via Adelaide, Sydney and Auckland we finally arrived in Christchurch.
This possibly wasn't the best place for Chantal's first taste of New Zealand as Christchurch is often referred to as being 'more English than England!'. It was a nice gentle introduction to the country though, we especially liked the colder weather too - 42 degrees C in Adelaide was a bit much!
Due to our slowly evaporating funds we tried to budget during our first week in NZ. We went to see the free arts and Christchurch museums - with lots on Maori culture, European colonisation and Fred & Myrtles infamous Paua shell house - where self collected Paua shells covered every wall of the house!
Christchurch was nice, very quaint, but after two nights at Charlie B's backpackers we were keen to see more of the South Island.
