Leaving Lake Tekapo we headed over the stunning 'Lindis pass' and along Lake Pukaki to Mt Cook for a very scenic lunch stop and a short hike to see the mountain - although when we got there we realised that Mt Cook was completely behind cloud and it was another mountain we'd been staring at! - it looked nice anyway!
After lunch we drove back along the lake and onto the main road towards Wanaka, stopping at puzzling world along the way. Some chap set this place up a while ago ( I could be more specific but theres no real need). It's basically a higgeldy piggeldy place with heaps of illusions, puzzles and a 2 storey maze. One of the best bits was the example of visual illusion, like in Lord of The Rings films, which could make little people big and big people little - Chantal loved this room!
Wanaka itself was very pretty too, another town set up during the gold rush years but survived thanks to tourism and extreme sports (like campervanning!)
To save money we headed 10km out of the town centre, camped along a mountain trail and slept to the sound of deer mating! (funny dreams that night).
