We gave ourselves a day to recover from our Kangaroo Island trip before heading over to Cleland Wildlife Park in the hills. Here we were able to see lots of the indigenous Australian creatures that we hadn't been able to spot in the wild, such as a dingo, wombat, Tasmanian devil and lots of deadly snakes!
We were also able to feed the kangaroo's (who were starting to look very fat and lazy because of it!) and stroke a real live Koala - called Alice. She'd been rescued as an orphan so we didn't mind giving her a bit of a cuddle. The reptile area was cool too, although we were glad to see them all behind glass - the top 5 deadliest snakes in the world all live in Australia.
On the Saturday we took a tour around the Barossa Valley for a day of wine tasting. We went to ... Chateau Tandunda, Wolf Blass, Langmeil, Maggie Beers and the Barossa Valley Estate - 10 points if you've heard of them all a. Alice at Clelend Park

. We learnt lots about wine making and then immediately forgot it all as the wine took effect! I do remember that there were some 165 yr old Shiraz vines at Langmeil which is apparently very good. All of the wine tasted lovely and by the end of a full day of tasting in a 30 degree sun, we were a bit sozzled.
We also took a trip into the city again and visited (free parts of) the Arts Museum and the South Australia Museum. The latter had great displays on Aboriginal culture, dinosaurs, space travel and the ocean..... Did you know that if all the ice caps melted, sea level would be 66 metres higher? wow, and also if we could extract all of the suspended gold in the oceans there'd be enough for us to all have 4kg each!.... I could go on but I'd use up all of my newly learnt pub trivia!
Since then we've been on a few walks, had dinner with a Uni friend of my Dad's in Adelaide, updated a lot of blogs (!), cooked kangaroo steak (yum) and watched some bad films.
It's been so nice to have a 'home' again for two weeks, we've been very lucky. To be able to cook our own meals, wash and iron our clothes and just chill out and relax has been such a treat. We're tidying the house up now as we pack our rucksacks to start 'backpacking' again. John and Libby arrive back from their holiday the day after we leave so unfortunately we'll miss them again.
We fly out tomorrow on what seems like the long route to New Zealand. We go... Adelaide - Sydney - Auckland - Christchurch, and should arrive 14 hours after leaving Adelaide!
