We had a lovely evening with John and Libby at their house in Blackwood, Adelaide on the 2nd January. Sadly our paths would only be crossing for this one day as they were both heading off for ACT on holiday the following day. It was still great to catch up with them and get tips on where to go to get the most of our stay in South Australia. We also got the lowdown on how the house functioned (and most importantly the barbecue!) which they were kindly allowing us to house sit for them for two weeks.
Blackwood is situated up in the Adelaide hills, about 25 minutes from the city. We made the most of this beautiful area with several walks (and one run!) in the nearbye parks.
A short and picturesque train ride from Coromandal station took us into the city centre for an exploration day. I got to retrace my footsteps from 2000 as we walked through Rundle Mall, King William St and visited my old backpackers on Grove St (now shut down)
It was a really hot day in the city and when my flip-flops started to melt we decided it was about time we headed back 'home'!
The next day the two of us took John's car up to Port Adelaide and followed a 'self-drive' route for River Dolpihin spotting. This was great fun, and more importantly free! We were lucky enough to see two pairs of dolphins frolicking in the Port River - one pair were just metres from the us on the shore.
The following day we prepared ourselves for our Kangaroo Island trip.........
