Glenelg was our next port of call (literally). It's the nearest coastal beach area to Adelaide and took only two hours from Meningie. We arrived at the Adelaide shores Caravan Park which was to be our home for the next two nights, including New Years Eve. Our first night was in an executive cabin (posh, eh?) which was self-contained allowing us to cook our own feast for the last meal of the year and enjoy a few bottles of wine (bought the day before) to get us in the New Years Eve spirit.
We returned to a packed Glenelg in the evening and walked past the live stage on the beach front to find a bar. They were all very busy but as we looked old and grown up compared to the crowd we were allowed in to the Dublin Bar (one advantage of a few grey hairs). We had a fun night sipping beers, playing crystal maze and working out when our friends around the world would be celebrating new years day (Warrnambool was 30 minutes before us!) Just before midnight we went onto the balcony to watch the Glenelg fireworks and peer at the drunken youths below a- arriving in Glenelg NYE

Our walk home involved fish and chips, lucky timing to catch the free new years bus and a helium filled rendition of the 'hokey- kokey' - a normal night out with Will and Liz!
New Years Day gave us a headache, a great brekfast and sunburnt legs for Will!
During the day I went up to the Adelaide hills to visit John and Libby Clapp and family. In 1979 my Dad (and family) swapped jobs, homes and countries with the Clapps for one year. They rudely did this before I was born but the hospitality John and Libby have shown me here (and in 2000) more than made up for that! It was great to catch up with them and see the house which they'd kindly be allowing us to stay in whilst they went on holiday in a few days.
In the evening I drove back to Glenelg to catch up with Chantal and Liz and to laugh at Will's sunburn. We had a lovely last meal with them both at a restaurant in Glenelg and were very sad to say goodbye to them on the 2nd as they headed back to Warrnambool (in one day!) and we headed up to the Adelaide. It really was special again to share some of our travel adventures with friends from home.
