Flag of New Zealand  , North Island,
Sunday, December 30, 2012

Napier is stunning. It is on the east coast of the north island of New Zealand and was largely destroyed during an earthquake and subsequent fire in the early 1930s. As a result it was rebuilt through the 1930s using mostly the Art Deco style. Consequently, walking through Napier is like taking a walk through the 1930s, Art Deco building after Art Deco building. It is beautiful.

Napier is also famous for it's wine region - Hawke's Bay. As we drove in we drove past may vineyards, the sun was shining, and the pacific gleaming. I really like this place! We purchased a bottle of Hawke's Bay white and enjoyed it overlooking the Pacific before finding some food for dinner and exploring the area we are staying in further. We are staying in the old harbour area, and it is buzzing with little cafes, restaurants and boutiques. I could stay here for days enjoying the sun, wine and architecture. But alas, it's New Year's Eve and we're due in Wellington to see 2013 in! Happy New Year to all of you :-) we will be thinking of you all as the clock strikes midnight here (11am with you!).

Mum (still in Marlborough!) on

Just posted my last comment and found your latest lovely blog from Napier ... this gets better and better! It looks great, and so do you! Holidays like this are clearly a good thing. More of Anna please on next one ... and am I right to think we can buy that vineyard wine over here? It's now 9pm on Sunday 30th, so I guess you're well on the way to Wellington. Hope the sun shines again upon you all day, and that you have a wonderful start to the year with unforgettable memories. Are you impressed I knew it would be 11am here when the New Year breaks? LoL! xx

Happy New Year's day to you both! I'm about to go off and celebrate NYE, I still find that super weird. Glad the weather is looking much better (we had SO much rain here too, so don't feel bad. In fact, shock horror, it's raining right now....)

when are we getting our next installment then?! It's been great keeping up to date with what you are up to! Love xxx
